Just Transition Lesson Plan

Environmental justice advocates have to prepare the next generation to continue fighting for a just and healthy future. I’ve been privileged to call Winona LaDuke a teacher, and she has repeatedly called for more instructional material on the subject of a Just Transition. How else can we expect younger generations to take up the cause?

I’ve developed a three-part lesson plan focused on discovering the shortcomings of our current extractive economy, sustainable indigenous economics, and the need for a Just Transition. Each section features a game or activity adapted from my years as a Peace Corps volunteer and educator, a short instructional block, and discussion questions. Ages: 10-15. Length: 1.5 – 2 hours, total.
