Global Carbon in Protected Areas

Working with the Leave it in the Ground Initiative, a team of researchers and I created global maps of oil, gas, and coal. We identified deposits under protected areas and estimated how much potential CO2 emissions were at stake.

With hundreds of gigatons of CO2 emissions at stake, we are calling for nations to enact non-extraction policies in these delicate areas. Too much is at stake, from global climate change to protecting our world’s most important natural sites.
